I'm trying to use this tutorial to add a custom button and sub buttons to Flagrantly, but whenever I do, it shows up with all blank text and the dropdown menu crashes into the top button. Is there anything else I'm not changing right that is doing this in subs.php or elsewhere?

Bro , you need to follow that TuT closely to do it correct!!!
..  go here and change your buttons / tabs => : ./Sources/Subs.php
.... this will affect all your Themes , not "just" Flagrantly - even Default Curve..

That's what I was doing though, I followed the tutorial exactly. Like I said, the options were all there, but no text and the dropdown was crashing into the main menu. Any idea why?

I really don't think it's the Theme , but it could be??

If you have any extra time, could you see if you could get an extra one on there?

Crip

Okay , do you have many / any mods installed..?

Actually, adding buttons is something we don't normally do here but if you attach your subs.php here so that we can take a look at it maybe something will stick out like a sore thumb.  Also, are you adding any text strings to menu items that might have not gotten added in your language files?  Finally, if you are trying to add too many buttons, and they won't all fit on one line, the "crashes into the top button" issue could happen.  Could you show us a screenshot of this issue?
